As part of a special education campaign between Greenwich Shopping Park and Greenwich Community College, aspiring fashion journalist, Megan Hunt, aged 17 from Lewisham, has been crowned as Greenwich Shopping Park’s first Student Stylista. Here, Megan will share her top fashion tips every month...
With the Christmas season over and the New Year in full swing, it’s time to ditch the high shine leggings and body-con skirts of 2009 and invest your well saved Christmas money on a few key pieces for spring, and take advantage of the January sales.
Nude/Pastel Colours:
Nude and pastel colours are a big trend for 2010 and have been featured on nearly all spring catwalks, from Stella McCartney to Fendi, while beige and soft pinks are popular colours on the high street for January. If you have a pale complexion then opt for darker, neutral colours, while those with darker skin tones should opt for warmer neutrals.
This floaty, nude coloured dress from River Island is great for daytime and evening. Wear with ankle boots and a chunky knit scarf in the day for a real winter look. Update for the evening by teaming with platform heels and a clutch, but be sure to keep jewellery to a minimum as the dress has so much detail.
Embellishment:
Beads, studs and sequins came back with a bang in autumn/winter 2009 and although the party season is over, don’t be afraid to incorporate embellishment in your everyday wardrobe. If you’re not feeling confident enough to add embellishment into your clothes, why not glam up your outfit with some embellished accessories?
This embellished bag from Miss Selfridge at Outfit is a simple way to add an edge to an everyday outfit.
Faux Fur:
Faux fur has made a come back year after year without fail, and will continue to make an appearance in nearly all high street shops in the new year. Head to New Look for girly and vintage inspired faux fur coats.
A cropped faux fur coat is a perfect way to add a chic twist to any daytime outfit. Just remember that if you opt for an animal print one to keep the rest of the outfit plain and simple.
If a faux fur jacket seems too daunting, then just incorporate an element of the look to your outfit. River Island has some lovely faux fur trimmed boots which will look chic and are a great way to keep warm throughout the winter season. Wear with woolly jumpers and leggings or mix things up with a skirt and some thick black tights.
River Island, Miss Selfridge at Outfit and New Look are located at Greenwich Shopping Park, off Bugsby’s Way in Charlton.
