December 29th, 2009

If you’re planning on updating your wardrobe in the January sales, then make sure that you’re buying the styles that will remain on trend in 2010.

Embellishment: Sequins

Love them or hate them, sequins are here to stay in 2010. Think sequin miniskirts, blazers and dresses for that ultra glam evening look.

How to wear in 2010: Toughen up your sequins through eclectic style and layering. Create a quirky and eclectic look by combining formal with the casual, for instance, team your sequin dress with a casual blazer, black tights and ankle boots for a more rough and ready vibe. Or layer your sequins by teaming sparkly skirts with graphic print t-shirts and boyfriend cardigans. Throw on a thick knit scarf and leather jacket to complete the look.

Sales: Miss Selfridge at Outfite has a gorgeous t-shirt style sequin dress, reduced from £75 to £35.* Team with some cool ankle boots, black opaque tights and a leather jacket or blazer. Also try the sales at Next, River Island, New Look and H&M if you’re after sequins and glamour.

Key piece: Blazers

Thankfully, the blazer will remain any girl’s staple wardrobe item at the beginning of the new decade. Wear with jeans, skirts or dresses, casually, glam or to work... the blazer serves many a fashion scenario. If you don’t already own one, then it’s time you hit the January sales.

How to wear in 2010: The blazer will never really go out of fashion, but there are some easy ways to bring it bang up-to-date. Nude and pastel colours are going to be huge this Spring, so if you spot grey, white, beige or pastel coloured blazers in the sale, then it’s worth snapping them up now! And don’t forget about checks, tweeds and tartans, these patterns and materials are super stylish, and blazers like this are a timeless look.

Sales: Boyfriend style blazer? Check. Checked pattern? Yes. Double breasted? Of course. River Island has the perfect blazer combining three trends in one.  And at £10 reduced from £49.99,* it’s a bargain. There are some great blazers around, so be sure to also check out Outfit, Next, New Look and H&M.

Shoes: Studded

And finally, the shoes of 2010. Christian Louboutin introduced us to the studded stiletto at the beginning of 2009, and since then, the high street and ladies everywhere have gone mad for this style. Whether you like pumps, stilettos, platforms or boots, if they’re embellished... they will be hot in 2010.

How to wear in 2010:  Think ankle boots and bright colours. Ankle boots are the trendiest shoes around, as they look great with skinny jeans and add a quirky edge to dresses, while bright, statement coloured shoes update any plain and simple outfit. If you spot studded, brightly coloured ankle boots in the sale, then you’re on to a winner.

Sales: Dorothy Perkins at Outfit has some gorgeous brightly coloured ankle boots, which have been reduced from £40 to £30.* Why not customise them by adding studs yourself? Look out for more studded shoes at Clarks, New Look, H&M, Next and River Island.
