February 19th, 2010
From classic British style such as Burberry Prorsum and Mulberry, to more eclectic designers who push the boundaries of fashion like House of Holland and Christopher Kane, British style is varied and unique. Some of Britain’s top designers will be arriving in London next week to showcase their latest collections at London Fashion Week (LFW) from 19-23 February, and here’s a rundown on how to incorporate the hottest LFW trends from Greenwich Shopping Park.
Trench coats
Quintessentially British designer Burberry is famed for its iconic trench coat, and the trench is making a comeback in a big way in 2010. From short sleeves to no sleeves, cinched in at the waist with matching or contrasting belts, bright coloured to classic cream, short to long, and formal to left undone. Aquascutum, Pringle and Burberry, all are introducing the trench of today at LFW. From the high street for the contemporary trench look, try this lace patterned trench from New Look for only £50.
Double Denim
Double denim might scream 1980s, but in 2010 the Brits are all doing it, including Mulberry, House of Holland and Twenty8Twelve, making it officially cool to wear head to toe denim. Add some texture by wearing frayed jeans and jackets with detail, or accessorise by adding chunky belts and jewellery, to help break it up. The high street has quickly caught on to the double denim craze- this denim shirt and denim shorts combination from Dorothy Perkins at Outfit is bang on trend. Next and H&M also have some great denim pieces, so feel confident enough to mix and match your denim finds from The Park.
Candy Colours
Every season has an ‘in’ colour and for LFW in February 2010, it’s candy colours. Think lemons, baby blues, demure pinks and mint greens in sheer and floaty fabrics to achieve this girly look. Luella and Christopher Kane are making good use of this season’s prettiest palette in their latest collections, as well as our high street favourites. We love this pale pink silk dress with lace detail from River Island, which ticks all of the trend boxes. If you want to toughen up your candy colours, try adding some masculine tailoring or materials, such as blazers and leather jackets, or some killer heels.
Fashion retailers New Look, Dorothy Perkins at Outfit, Next, H&M and River Island are available at Greenwich Shopping Park, Bugsby’s Way, Charlton.
