From the likes of Vivienne Westwood to Stella McCartney, and House of Holland to PPQ, British style is eclectic, original, bold and full of attitude. So in light of London Fashion Week, which rolled into town last week and ends today (18-22 September), here’s a low down on the latest London trends, along with our pick of the best LFW looks available from Greenwich Shopping Park.
The colours: Teal and Violet
From the likes of Sienna Miller’s brand Twenty8Twelve and classic British label Pringle of Scotland to Oscar de la Renta and Gucci, autumn is all about teal and violet when it comes to colours this season. Think tones of violet and turquoise for those with fair complexions and hair, and striking berry and kaki shades to flatter darker skin types. We adore this grape coloured satin dress from the Greenwich Shopping Park’s River Island, which can be paired with ankle boots and a leather jacket for a true London rock chick look.
The material: Velvet
Forget frumpy images of 80s velvet and unfashionable curtains, velvet is back with a vengeance. Stella McCartney and Burberry clearly love velvet this autumn, with sleek cocktail dresses and sharp tailored jackets in the material. This velvet dress from Dorothy Perkins is bang on trend, not only does it boast the season’s hottest material, but the hottest colour too, and it’s perfect for a night out. If a velvet dress sounds a bit daunting, then just lighten the look by simply teaming a velvet hair accessory, pair of shoes or handbag to any outfit. And velvet isn’t just for the ladies, Topman at Outfit has a fantastic range of velvet blazers to update any jeans and shirt combo.
The print: Houndstooth
A British favourite, the houndstooth print has been seen in Aquascutum and Scotsman Christopher Kane’s latest collections at London Fashion Week. Houndstooth can be worn in so many different ways, whether it’s teamed with leather for a grungy look, or with pearls for understated British elegance,. This houndstooth patterned dress from Next is a classic in its monochrome colours. Add a splash of colour to the outfit with a pair of bright shoes, statement piece of jewellery or a belt.
