Marathon Man

For the past four months, Greg Blomley, Store Manager of Next at Greenwich Shopping Park, has been juggling shifts while training for his third marathon.

Greg, 28, who has been managing Next at the Park off Bugsby’s Way in Charlton for the past 18 months, is running the Dublin Marathon on 26 October in aid of local charity, Greenwich and Bexley Cottage Hospice, as well as Everyman, the prostate cancer charity.

Greg says: “Since joining Next at the Park nearly two years ago, I have met so many interesting people from various backgrounds, both customers and staff. The local community has been so friendly and welcoming, and this inspired me to give something back by running the Dublin marathon in aid of a local charity.

“Having run the London Marathon in 2007 and 2008, I’m ready for a new challenge and a change of scenery! But this doesn’t mean that I’ll be forgetting about London, as I’m running to raise funds for the Greenwich and Bexley Cottage Hospice.  

“As the Park’s official Charity of the Year since September 2008, we’ve supported the hospice with numerous fundraising events throughout the year, and I think this will be a great way of celebrating our support over the year for the charity.

“The hospice is so deserving, providing therapy and care to its residents, but also supporting the friends and family members. All of the stores at the Park have tried to support the charity in different events throughout the year, including school choirs singing to raise funds at Christmas and the charity’s Go Yellow event where many of the shops at the park dressed up in yellow for the day”. 

“I’ll also be running in aid of Everyman, which is an important charity as it raises awareness about this form of cancer.
“The past couple of months have been so busy, as I’ve had to fit my training in around managing the store, which involves staff training, organising rotas and managing the sales, so I’m really looking forward to the marathon so that I can have some more spare time! I am hoping to raise a great deal of money for these two great charities, so any support from the borough will be much appreciated.”
