Is Kelly your American Idol?

Kelly Clarkson stormed to fame in 2002 after winning the first ever American Idol, but is she worthy of her success or is she just another reality star?

In the UK alone Kelly Clarkson has sold over 1.8m albums and she is the most successful female artist in American Top 40 history, so she’s clearly not just another manufactured Idol singer and her fourth album, ‘All I Ever Wanted’, certainly proves this.

For Clarkson lovers out there, there are still some superb tracks on the album, like the Sam Watters-produced ‘Cry’, which has some beautiful guitar riffs and a lovely melody and it’s a top ten single in the making.
The album opens with the hit single, ‘My Life Would Suck Without You’, a good pop song with a catchy tune, but it’s not likely to get Clarkson into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Similarly ‘Whyyawannabringmedown’ and ‘I want you’, certainly provide good pop songs, but the lyrics are pretty uninspiring, while the tracks themselves just don’t do Clarkson’s vocal range justice. 
However, the album title track, ‘All I ever wanted’, stands out for its mature and sophisticated sound, as well as the final song on the album, ‘The Day We Fell Apart’. Both tracks really suit Clarkson and show off her distinctive and powerful voice.

Overall, most of the tracks on the album boast good lyrics and beautiful melodies, while the rest are mediocre. But throw in Clarkson’s vocal acrobatics and lungs of steel, and even the less catchy songs sound great!
