Greenwich Shopping Park announces winning fashion designer

Greenwich Shopping Park, on Bugsby’s Way in Charlton, has today (14 April) announced the winning young designers of the ‘Your New Look’ competition, which was launched last month to coincide with the opening of fashion store, New Look, at the Park. The winning design caught the eyes of judges Vicki Savage, fashion lecturer at Greenwich Community College and Natasha Miller, former fashion journalist and owner of The Style Studio Fashion Courses for Kids, for its originality and attention to detail. Created by 12 year old, Melissa Bardon from Charlton, the winning design incorporated Melissa’s love of fashion with swimming, by combining the two to create an outfit that can be worn in the water (image 1.) Melissa also included sample waterproof materials and a detailed colour scheme with her design. Natasha Miller said: “Vicki and I were so impressed by the high standard of fashion designs that we received, Greenwich Borough certainly has some talented youngsters! However, Melissa’s design stood out in particular for being original and creative. She took inspiration from her favourite sport and the attention to detail was fantastic.” Yulee Foster, aged 15 from Greenwich, also impressed the judges, scooping second prize for her nautical inspired outfit, which included key spring trends such as tie dye effect and stripes (image 2.) While third prize was awarded to 11 year old, Millie Brookes from Lewisham for her bohemian inspired design. Winning designer, Melissa, will get to taste what the fashion world has to offer, when she attends three fashion sessions of her choice at The Style Studio in Greenwich, and a one-on-one session with Vicki Savage, also Greenwich Shopping Park’s Fashion Guru, to gain advice and guidance about starting a career in fashion design. Melissa Bardon said: “I am over the moon to have won the Your New Look competition and so happy to have impressed the judges with my design. I can’t wait to attend the fashion courses to learn more about fashion design and customising.” In addition to the practical fashion experience, Melissa will also receive £50.00 worth of New Look shopping vouchers, while the runners up will also receive £20.00 worth of vouchers each.
