MGMT return with new album

April 6th, 2010

Brooklyn-based duo MGMT (aka Management) produce spacey electronic rock that is both engaging and playful. Consisting of singer/multi-instrumentalists Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden, MGMT featured in both the top ten of BBC's Sound of 2008 poll and in Rolling Stones's Ten Artists To Watch 2008 list.

 

Following their critically acclaimed debut, 'Congratulations' is the second studio album from MGMT. The distinctive electro-pop that yielded hits from 'Oracular Spectacular' has been traded for a psychedelic sound where influences from ex-Spacemen 3 producer Peter Kember are evident.

 

In an attempt to encourage fans to experience the album as a whole, MGMT refrained from releasing any singles from the set. The album is a collection of nine individual musical tours de force sequenced to flow with sonic and thematic coherence: 'It's Working,' 'Song for Dan Treacy,' 'Someone's Missing,' 'Flash Delirium,' 'I Found a Whistle,' 'Siberian Breaks,' 'Brian Eno,' 'Lady Dada's Nightmare,' and 'Congratulations.'

 

'Congratulations' offered MGMT the opportunity to work with a couple of their musical idols and influences including album co-producer Sonic Boom and Royal Trux front-woman Jennifer Herrema, who contributed guest vocals. "We've been lucky enough to meet and work with some of our all-time musical heroes," Andrew says, marvelling at MGMT's good collaborative karma. "It's so great to be around such amazing and unusual musical minds."

 

'Congratulations' is brilliant album which pushes the boundaries of modern pop. Its quirky, unique and creative tracks are sure to be a soundtrack to many festivals and people’s summers.
